From Sam and the Cordier family

When the people we love leave us, they tend to take a little piece of our hearts away with them. The thing about Wendy was that she gave so much more than she ever took.

I know I speak for all of us when I say that each one of us in the Cordier family have many incredible memories of the times we have spent together, filled with love, warmth, and happiness. She and the Pontins welcomed me into her family like a son, made me feel like I had my family with me when I was alone in the UK, and continued to do so whenever we visited with our own family.

There are too many memories to recall here… but they range from chopping down a hedge in her beautiful garden (and later ziplining across it), to her selflessly letting us borrow her car to spend time in London, to relaxing in the hot tub, to harvesting vegetables in her greenhouse, to long walks… these memories have built up over years. I will never forget the Christmas gatherings we had together, and will forever be grateful as I recall how she made Easter egg baskets to hide around the garden for my son Alan and her many grandchildren. She gave all of us memories that we will cherish forever.

To the Pontin family, we send our deepest condolences. It doesn't seem like enough. Please know that we are with you in your heartache. Wendy leaves behind her a beautiful legacy which we know will be honoured forever.

To Wendy, we just want to say thank you. For everything. We will miss you profoundly, but you will always be with us in our hearts.

Wendy didn’t take anything away from us when she left. She left a piece of herself with us, and we will never let that go. Wherever she is now, I believe she’d always want us to be happy – while she enjoys a much needed rest with Marc, my dad, and the many beautiful people who have left us too soon. We love you.
